The story
Mocker is the funniest Goop around, but he can't stop copying everyone's voice through his star-painted megaphone. At an echoing stone wall, he copies Spirit's strange, shifting sound perfectly, and the wall swallows him up.
He lands in the hot Gobi Desert of Mongolia, near cliffs that glow like fire. A camel gives him a ride until Mocker copies one sound too many, and soon he is stuck on a ledge as something moves under the sand.
The real place: Flaming Cliffs, Mongolia
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1The Flaming Cliffs got their name because the red and orange rock seems to glow like fire at sunset.
- 2In 1923, explorers found dinosaur eggs at the Flaming Cliffs, the first dinosaur eggs ever recognized by scientists.
- 3The Gobi is one of the biggest deserts in the world, with scorching summers and freezing cold winters.
