The story

Poutine is a bright Goop who loves geography books and baking cookies, but she pouts whenever things don't go her way. When Verislow finds the magic travel book in his attic before she does, she pouts, and the book sucks her right in.

She pops out below the yellow and red Pena Palace in Portugal. A palace frog warns her about Triton, who turns misbehaving visitors to stone, and he can't stand anyone who tries to out-pout him.

The real place: Pena Palace, Sintra

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Pena Palace sits on top of a hill in Sintra, Portugal, and is painted bright yellow and red.
  2. 2It was built in the 1800s for King Ferdinand II, like a real-life storybook castle.
  3. 3A stone Triton, a sea creature who is half man and half fish, guards the palace entrance arch.
