The story
Shusher loves attention, his star-topped hat and his whistle, which he blows to shush anyone he thinks is too noisy. When Miss Wigglebutt catches him whistling in class, he blows it extra hard, shrinks to the size of a button, and gets sucked inside.
He slides out onto a hay bale on a farm in Vermont, glowing with autumn colors. There he meets three sheep sisters named Bleu, Brie and Feta, who aren't sure a Goop who can't make milk or eggs is of much use.
The real place: Woodstock, Vermont
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1Vermont makes more maple syrup than any other state in the United States.
- 2Vermont's name comes from French words that mean "green mountain," and its Green Mountains glow red, orange and gold in the fall.
- 3Vermont is famous for its cheese, made from the milk of cows, goats and even sheep.
