The story

Smashum and Breaka are twins who always find the action, and they love to break and smash things just for fun. On a December morning, they swing from a string of holiday lights and drop straight into an open manhole.

They break through a tunnel wall into the torch-lit passages of ancient Egypt, deep inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. A mummy's spirit is chasing them, and their only help is a cobra named Scales.

The real place: Giza

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for the pharaoh Khufu, and for thousands of years it was the tallest building in the world.
  2. 2The Great Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a person, and it was carved from one giant piece of rock.
  3. 3The Sphinx's nose has been missing for hundreds of years, which is why Scales says it was already broken.
