Grumpylina has a wild imagination and a frowning stuffed cat she whacks on things whenever she's grumpy. At a secret wishing well, she gets so grumpy about who goes first that she lets go of the handle and spins right down into the well.
She comes up through an overflowing well in a dense forest in Estonia. A flying squirrel named Lendama tells her it is the Witch's Well, and that the witches who live below will come looking for her tonight.

Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1The Witch's Well is in the village of Kata, Estonia. After heavy rain or melting snow, an underground river makes water gush up and over the top.
- 2Legend says the water bubbles because witches are having a sauna underground and swatting each other with birch branches.
- 3Estonia is one of the only places in Europe where flying squirrels live. They glide between trees using flaps of skin like a parachute.
