The story

Oblivibob is so focused on whatever is right in front of him that he doesn't notice anything else, including danger. At the rock quarry with Breaka and Smashum, he stands under a giant rock on a forklift to pretend he's holding it up, just as it comes down.

He unfolds himself in a swampy Louisiana bayou full of giant cypress trees. A white egret named Goldie warns him that here, alligators like to pretend they are logs.

The real place: Louisiana Bayou

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1The bald cypress, with its wide trunk and roots that poke up out of the water, is the state tree of Louisiana.
  2. 2Louisiana has more wild alligators than any other state, about two million of them.
  3. 3Alligators can float with only their eyes and nostrils above water, so they really can look just like a log.
