The story

Teeza is bright and charming but pushes her teasing a little too far. She and Sir Ratsalot follow a magic cobblestone road that only appears on misty mornings, until Teeza gets impatient, blows at the mist, and is swept away.

When the mist melts, she is swimming down a long pool toward the Taj Mahal in India, where a dancing shrub and a stone nightingale trapped for four hundred years need her help.

The real place: Taj Mahal

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a resting place for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, almost four hundred years ago.
  2. 2Its white marble walls are decorated with colorful stones set right into the marble, like jade and lapis lazuli.
  3. 3The marble seems to change color during the day, looking pinkish at sunrise, white at noon and golden at sunset.
