The story

Worry Willie is a sweet, thoughtful Goop who worries about everything and carries his blue blanket just in case. Out looking for Perfecta's perfect rainbow in the rain, he worries so hard that he turns into a puddle and disappears.

He washes up in New Zealand and drifts by boat into a cave lit by glowworms, where he learns he has been brought there by a giant boulder that likes to snap up worriers.

The real place: Split Apple Rock

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Split Apple Rock is a giant granite boulder split neatly in two, sitting in the water of Tasman Bay in New Zealand.
  2. 2Its Maori name is Tokangawha, meaning "burst open rock," and a Maori legend says two gods fought over the rock and broke it apart.
  3. 3Scientists say water seeped into a crack in the rock, froze and pushed the two halves apart during an ice age long ago.
