The story

Bookatashi always has her nose in a book, especially her family's old book of magic. While showing Partypooper her bookshelf, she gets so caught up in a map book that she reaches for a torn page of Bhutan, and the whole shelf swings open and swallows her.

She tumbles out into the green hills of Bhutan, where a sweet red panda leads her to a lookout. Across the valley, a thick white fog is creeping toward them in the shape of a snake, or maybe a dragon.

The real place: Bhutan

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Bhutan is called the "Land of the Thunder Dragon," and a white dragon appears on its flag.
  2. 2The Tiger's Nest is a famous monastery built right on the edge of a steep cliff, high above a valley.
  3. 3Red pandas live in Bhutan's cool mountain forests. They are endangered and spend most of their time in trees.
