Concheata and the Rainbow Mountain

The story

Concheata is charming, clever, and not above a little cheating, like "borrowing" answers on a math test. When she fake-cries to lure out Fat Cat, he hisses so hard she tumbles into a rainbow flower bed.

She lands high in the mountains of Peru, dizzy from the thin air. Cantante, a singing horse, will take her to the Rainbow Mountain, but only if she follows his rules and treats the mountain with respect.

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

1. 1Rainbow Mountain, also called Vinicunca, is high in the Andes near Cusco, Peru, more than 16,000 feet above the sea.
2. 2Its stripes of red, yellow, green and purple come from different minerals in the layers of rock.
3. 3For a long time it was hidden under snow and ice, and it only became famous after the ice melted away.
