The story

Cootiecounto is the funniest Goop in class, but he won't play with girls because he is sure they have cooties. When Gossipina tricks him and touches his arm, he runs so fast he rolls right into the river.

He washes up in snowy Finland, where a wise swan named Cygne warns him about the hungry gulo gulo. To get home, he must find lake number 777 among thousands of lakes.

The real place: Finland

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Finland is called the land of a thousand lakes, but it really has about 187,888 lakes, just like Cygne says.
  2. 2The whooper swan, the kind of swan Cygne is, is Finland's national bird.
  3. 3Wolverines, the "gulo gulo," live in Finland's snowy forests. They are small but tough and can travel far over deep snow.
