Erlydyn and The Swallow's Nest Castle

The story

Erlydyn is up before the sun and wants everyone else up too. She drags Mudifoot out to chase the sunrise, banging her gavel on a wooden bridge until the clouds lose their patience.

A gust of wind carries her to the Black Sea in Ukraine. A lizard named Anton says she needs a painted egg from the Swallow's Nest castle, and the only way in is up the cliff.

The real place: Swallow's Nest

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

1. 1The Swallow's Nest is a small fairytale-style castle perched on the edge of a tall cliff above the Black Sea.
2. 2It was built more than 100 years ago, in 1912.
3. 3Ukrainian painted Easter eggs are called pysanky, and they are decorated with wax and bright dyes in beautiful patterns.
