The story
Fallo is loud, fun, and a little clumsy, because he never watches where he's going. Showing off on the dock with Bossylina, he reaches his walking stick toward his reflection and gets pulled into the lake.
He pops up in Chile's Atacama Desert, where a flamingo named Pink Lemonade warns him about La Fuerza, a force that doesn't like visitors. Their only hope is a giant stone hand in the desert, guided by the North Star.
The real place: Atacama Desert
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1The Atacama Desert in Chile is one of the driest places on Earth. Some spots have gone years without any rain.
- 2Flamingos live at its salty lakes. The tiny shrimp and algae they eat are what make them pink.
- 3A giant hand sculpture called Mano del Desierto, about 11 meters tall, really reaches up out of the sand there.
