Fijetta and The Blue Grotto

The story

Fijetta has an infectious laugh and a little red flag she waves when she gets nervous and can't sit still. On a walk in the magic forest, her fidgeting gets the trees fidgeting too, and one of them flings her across the world.

She splashes down in the glowing Blue Grotto of Capri, in Italy. Two mermaids each say the other is a sea monster in disguise, and Fijetta has to stay calm long enough to work out who is telling the truth.

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

1. 1The Blue Grotto glows bright blue because sunlight shines in through an underwater opening and lights the water from below.
2. 2The entrance is so low that visitors have to lie down flat in small rowboats to get inside.
3. 3Ancient Romans used the grotto about 2,000 years ago, and statues of sea gods have been found on its floor.
