The story

Fixem has amazing focus and loves to fix things, even things that aren't broken. When he starts unscrewing the steering wheel of Playalina's tiny toy dune buggy just to see how it works, a gust of wind shrinks him down and carries him off in it.

After a wild sandstorm, he lands in the red sand dunes of Saudi Arabia, free to race up and down for hours, until the buggy breaks down and a mysterious voice tells him he won't ride his way out.

The real place: Red Sand Dunes, Saudi Arabia

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Some desert sand looks red because each grain is coated in a thin layer of iron oxide, which is a lot like rust.
  2. 2Sand cats, like Paka in the story, have furry pads on their paws so they don't sink into hot sand, and they barely leave footprints.
  3. 3Sand cats rarely need to drink. They get most of the water they need from the food they eat.
