The story
Playalina can turn almost anything into a game, except chores. At a secret twilight lake, she leaves Illdoit to build a raft all by himself while she plays, then reaches for a sparkle on the water and slips under.
She pops up in the Trevi Fountain in Rome, holding an ancient coin with Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, on it. With a grumpy policeman named Piero on her heels, she and Vulcan race through Rome on a red Vespa.
The real place: Trevi Fountain, Rome
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1Visitors toss coins over their shoulder into the Trevi Fountain. Legend says that if you do, you will come back to Rome one day.
- 2The coins thrown into the fountain are collected and given to charity to help people in need.
- 3The Colosseum, where Playalina rides with Vulcan, could hold about 50,000 people watching gladiators nearly 2,000 years ago.
