The story
Gemarina spots anything that sparkles, and her gem pouch is so full it never stays tied. Walking home with Burpalot, she reaches for one more pink gem, trips on a root, and sinks into a glittering river of stones.
She lands in a hidden cave of smoky golden cairngorm stones in the Scottish Highlands and starts grabbing as many as she can. But the pile is shifting, and a golden eagle is circling overhead.
The real place: Cairngorms, Scotland
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1Cairngorm is a smoky brown quartz named after the Cairngorm Mountains, and Queen Victoria loved wearing it in jewelry.
- 2The Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands is the largest national park in the United Kingdom.
- 3Golden eagles live in the Highlands, and their wings can stretch about two meters from tip to tip.
