The story
Imaginativa has the biggest imagination in Goop World, and anything she pictures can come to life. Showing Matho her binoculars and a paintbrush, she paints a little blue door in the air and walks right through it.
She steps into the painted village of Zalipie, Poland, where flowers cover every house and a painted sunflower can talk. But one wall is completely blank, and when she stops in front of it, her feet begin to sink.
The real place: Zalipie, Poland
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1More than 100 years ago, women in Zalipie began painting flowers on their homes to cover black soot from their stoves.
- 2Today flowers are painted on houses, wells, fences, barns and even doghouses all over the village.
- 3Every year since 1948, Zalipie has held a contest for the most beautifully painted cottage.
