The story

Intrupta cannot stop interrupting, not even when a chicken tries to warn her about the secret wishing well. Hot and thirsty, she leans in too far and falls right in.

She lands at the top of Chand Baori, a giant stepwell in India. A friendly rat named Asha says she must step on all 3,500 steps to get home, and never wake the spirits in the pool.

The real place: Chand Baori

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Chand Baori in India has about 3,500 steps in a zigzag pattern, going down 13 levels to a pool of water.
  2. 2It was built more than 1,000 years ago to catch and save rainwater for the dry season.
  3. 3The air at the bottom of the stepwell stays cooler than the air at the top, which helped people escape the desert heat.
