The story
Lemeetri is a very tidy Goop who always wants to be first and grabs things shouting "Let me try!" When he grabs for Fijetta's flag by the windy river, he slips into the rapids.
A gust catches his toy windmill and flies him all the way to Holland, into a field of tulips by a giant windmill. He peeks inside, but it belongs to grumpy Farmer Baas, whose bewitched yellow clogs see everything.
The real place: Holland
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1Tulips are famous in Holland, but they first came from Central Asia and Turkey.
- 2A large part of the Netherlands lies below sea level, and windmills once pumped water off the land to keep it dry.
- 3Wooden clogs, called klompen, are sturdy and keep feet dry, so some Dutch farmers still wear them.
