The story

Pushem is a champion prankster, but when he gets frustrated he pushes. On a snowy day he leads Ignora onto a frozen lake, tries to push her farther out, slips, and crashes through the ice.

He wakes up frozen in a block of ice on Lake Baikal in Siberia, with a Siberian tiger batting him across the lake. A polar bear and some very unusual frozen bubbles might be his only way out.

The real place: Lake Baikal

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia, is the deepest lake in the world and one of the oldest, about 25 million years old.
  2. 2It holds about one fifth of all the unfrozen fresh water on Earth.
  3. 3In winter, bubbles of methane gas get trapped in its clear ice, making stacks of frozen white bubbles, just like in the story.
