The story
Shoutine is as cheerful as sunshine, but she shouts everything through her bullhorn. Hiding from Miss Wigglebutt in a secret library, she spins a giant globe so fast it sucks her right in.
She drops onto a hidden island in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. A hornbill named Avi warns her to stay quiet around the rare golden-headed langurs, but quiet is not her strong suit.
The real place: Ha Long Bay
Three things to tell your kid after the story.
- 1Ha Long Bay in Vietnam has more than 1,600 limestone islands rising out of green water.
- 2Ha Long means "descending dragon," from a legend that dragons came down and made the islands to protect the land.
- 3Golden-headed langurs are among the rarest monkeys in the world and live only on Cat Ba Island in Ha Long Bay.
