The story

Xaspery is a polite little gentleman with a walking stick, until he gets exasperating. On a moonlit hike he splashes Haychu and shouts his own name so loudly at a waterfall that he slips and falls in.

He lands in the Swiss Alps, where an ibex tells him about a secret ibex dance at the Matterhorn. With a white rabbit named Cedric, Xaspery sets off along the train tracks to find the mysterious white ibex.

The real place: The Swiss Alps

Three things to tell your kid after the story.

  1. 1Alpine ibex have hooves with hard edges and soft, grippy pads underneath, so they can climb almost straight-up cliffs.
  2. 2A male ibex's curved horns can grow about as long as a baseball bat.
  3. 3The Matterhorn is one of the highest mountains in the Alps, with a famous pointy pyramid shape.
